Habitat: Base of steep forested bluffs, moist soil, dense shade, along creek bed; mixed forest of Fraxinus pensylvanica, Fraxinus nigra, Populus deltoides, Acer saccharinum, Celtis occidentalis, Ulmus rubra, and Tilia americana on adjacent slopes. Associated species include Phalaris, Laportea, Caltha, and Osmorhiza.
