Habitat:
Rugged terrain; on shallow ledges and in crevices of 50 to 150-foot, north-facing, diabase/anorthosite cliffs which form upper portion of 350-foot, west to north-facing ridge. Often growing in moss mats. Shaded by canopy of surrounding forest including Betula cordifolia, Thuja occidentalis, and Sorbus decora. Cliffs consist of large, unbroken faces of bare rock with scattered crevices and ledges.
