Habitat: in mesic to wet-mesic prairie remnant. Dark sandy soil. Associates include Carex haydenii, C. conoidea, C. buxbaumii, Luzula multiflora, Poa pratensis, Spartina pectinata, Galium boreale, Saxifraga pennsylvanica, Potentilla simplex, Phlox pilosa, Solidago gigantea, Pedicularis lanceolata, Anemone canadensis, Fragaria virginiana, Equisetum arvense, Campanula aparinoides, Gentiana andrewsii, Zizia aurea, Lathyrus palustris.
