Habitat: Individuals found growing in old forest dominated by Pinus strobus and Pinus resinosa. Shallow to bedrock with charcoal at mineral soil surface. Associates include: Carex tonsa, Melampyrum lineare, Aralia nudicaulis, and Oryzopsis asperifolia.
