Habitat: Local in strip of woodland in narrow, steep-sided valley. Interrupted canopy dominated locally by Quercus macrocarpa, Q. ellipsoidalis, Pinus resinosa, and Populus tremuloides. Fairly dense, tall shrub layer of Corylus americana and C. cornuta. Hundreds of plants in large but sparse patch on lower portion of gently west-facing slope, near wetland. Sandy soil.
