Habitat: Local on the south bank of the creek. Several small trees on an alluvial terrace. Partial shade beneath sparse canopy of Fraxinus nigra and Betula papyrifera. Dark, rocky, mesic sandy-loam substrate. Understory trees, to ~18 feet tall, and 2+ inches D.B.H.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Acer spicatum, Corylus cornuta, Lonicera xbella, Diervilla lonicera, Rubus strigosus, Clematis virginiana, Athyrium angustum, Thalictrum dasycarpum, Matteuccia struthiopteris, Calamagrostis canadensis.
