Habitat: Rare and local in large expanse of mature to old growth northern maple-basswood forest. Gradual east-facing slope on upper portion of 150-foot ridge. Canopy dominated by Tilia americana and Acer saccharum, with scattered Betula allegheniensis. Understory mostly Acer saccharum. Rocky loamy soil. Loose to rather dense patch covers ~500 feet2.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Uvularia sessilifolia, U. grandiflora, Asarum canadense, Solidago flexicaulis, Arisaema triphyllum, Caulophyllum thalictroides, Osmorhiza claytonii, Viola pubescens, Actaea pachypoda, Athyrium angustum, Botrychium matricariifolium, Milium effusum.
