Habitat: Uncommon and local on the riverbank at the base of a 40-foot, north-facing, mesic greywacke cliff. In shallow moist silty soil over the greywacke bedrock, 3-5 feet above the river; in a setting that is scoured by flood waters during spring runoff and other high water events. Full sun. Several shrubs here, these several-stemmed and up to ~5 feet tall.
Associated Species: Associates include Cornus stolonifera, Salix lucida, Eupatorium maculatum, Lysimachia ciliata, Onoclea sensibilis.
