Habitat: Locally common in old growth upland cedar dominated by Thuja occidentalis, with scattered Betula cordifolia, Acer rubrum, and Abies balsamea. Patchy understory of Acer spicatum. Level to gently-sloping settings. Mesic silt-loam; thick litter. Stoloniferous, forming loose patches.
Associated Species: Associates include Carex deweyana, C. arctata, C. brunnescens, C. leptonervia, C. deflexa, Osmorhiza depauperata, Dryopteris expansa, Circaea alpina, Clintonia borealis, Linnaea borealis, Trientalis borealis, Maianthemum canadense, Lonicera canadensis.
