Habitat: Local in narrow ecotone between rich sedge fen and the surrounding upland forest. Mostly in full sun (some plants in partial shade of Picea mariana). Mesic to moist, shallow organic soil over bedrock and boulders in mostly level area 1-2 feet above the elevation of the fen. Primocanes low arching, to 30 inches long; floricanes arching to erect.
Associated Species: Associates include Spiraea alba, Myrica gale, Vaccinium angustifolium, Smilacina trifolia, Agrostis scabra, Calamagrostis canadensis, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Ledum groenlandicum
