Habitat: Local, uncommon in open conifer woodland on low (~20-foot) bedrock ridges north of Ball Club Creek, east of Trine Lake. Patchy canopy of mature Picea mariana. Scattered smaller Abies balsamea. Partial shade. In thick moss and lichen mats (Dicranum, Polytrichum, Pleurozium, Cladina) over gently sloping diabase/gabbro. Plants with a bluish hue and upswept branches.
Associated Species: Associates include Chimaphila umbellata, Lycopodium clavatum, Diphasiastrum complanatum, Linnaea borealis, Cornus canadensis, Maianthemum canadense, Gaultheria hispidula, Vaccinium angustifolium.
