Habitat:
Rare to occasional (very locally) on a long, low bedrock point on southern shore. Loose patches on a very gradually sloping lakeshore increasingly exposed by receding water levels (~12 inches below the early season high mark). Moist sand (over gabbro/diabase bedrock), just above the water line. Full sun.

Associates include Carex cryptolepis, C. echinata, C. lasiocarpa, C. michauxiana, Eleocharis palustris, Juncus brevicaudatus, Euthamia graminifolia, Utricularia cornuta, Hypericum majus, Viola pallens, Drosera rotundifolia, Myrica gale.
