Habitat:
Rare in lowland white cedar forest along a gently-sloping ephemeral drainage west of the Brule Lake Hiking Trail. Patchy to interrupted canopy of Thuja occidentalis, with occasional Betula papyrifera, B. cordifolia, and Picea mariana. Alnus incana in a rather sparse understory. Moist organic soil.

Additional associates include Athyrium angustum, Thelypteris phegopteris, Dryopteris expansa, Lycopodium lucidulum, Linnaea borealis, Coptis groenlandica, Rubus pubescens, Mitella nuda, Cornus canadensis, Carex trisperma, Lonicera canadensis.
