Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Bear Island State Forest. East of Birch Lake, approximately 10.2 km northwest of the intersection of Hwy 1 and New Tomahawk Rd and 4.3 km south of the intersection of Hwy 1 and Spruce Rd.

Habitat: growing in partial shade at the edge of an upland black spruce forest and a clear cut.
Associated Species: Associated species include Cornus canadensis, Vaccinium mytilloides, Picea mariana, Coptis trifolia, Clintonia borealis, and Sphagnum sp.
