Habitat: Occasional in lowland mixed forest along east side of Lower Red Lake. Narrow sand deposits resulting from old beach ridges form the substrate for this forest.
Associated Species: Diverse canopy codominated by Abies balsamea, Tilia americana, Fraxinus nigra, Thuja occidentalis, Betula papyrifera. Understory and groundlayer associates include Acer spicatum, Laportea canadensis (abundant), Impatiens capensis, Ribes cynosbati, Asarum canadense, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Aralia nudicaulis.
