Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake of the Woods, Flag Island, Northwest Angle. Interior of island, 0.35 miles west of eastern shoreline; 0.30 miles south of northern shoreline.

Habitat: Two small patches in upland cedar forest. Pacth sizes are approx. 5x5 meters, about 40 meters apart. Growing in canopy gap of Thuja occidentalis and Abies balsamea.
Substrate: Shallow soil over bedrock.
Associated Species: Other associates include Athyrium filix-femina, Aralia nudicaulis, Linnaea borealis, Populus tremuloides saplings, Lathyrus ochroleucus, Pteridium aquilinum, Equisetum sylvaticum, Cornus canadensis.
