Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; Rolling bedrock terrain along the Four Mile Portage between Fall and Basswood Lakes, 10 miles northeast of Ely. Local on the southern shore of Muskeg Lake.

Habitat: Occasional at the water's edge on the margin of a shrub shore fen. Specimen is a portion of one of several robust clumps, each with dozens of fruiting culms. Wet, quaky, mucky-organic substrate. Full sun.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex lasiocarpa, Dulichium arundinaceum, Scirpus atrocinctus, Glyceria borealis, Myrica gale, Potentilla palustris.
