Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; On the shores of Basswood Lake in rolling bedrock terrain 14 miles northeast of Ely; on the western shore of the main body of the lake southwest of Washington Island.

Habitat: Occasional in a vernal ash swamp behind a fairly extensive sand beach on the western shore of the main body of the lake southwest of Washington Island. Interrupted canopy of Fraxinus nigra. Patchy understory of Alnus incana, Fraxinus nigra, and Ulmus americana. Wet mucky substrate, mostly in moister microsites between sedge clumps. Petals white, fairly large.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Scutellaria galericulata, Ranunculus gmelini, Myosotis scorpioides, Veronica scutellata, Calla palustris, Sium suave, Galium trifidum, Carex arcta, C. tuckermanii, Glyceria canadensis.
