Habitat: Rugged terrain...in maturing oak stand on 80-foot, south-facing slope and the adjacent ridgetop. In brown, rocky, sandy-loam. Canopy dominated by Quercus rubra, with occasional Betula papyrifera. Understory dominated by Acer saccharum. Additional associates include Carex communis, C. peckii, C. gracilescens, C. pedunculata, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Polygonatum pubescens, Pteridium aquilinum, Aster macrophyllus, Streptopus roseus, Acer rubrum, Corylus cornuta.
