Habitat: stop 40-foot, east-facing, basalt cliff rising out of the lake. In open, shallow, silty soil and lichen mats at cliff edge. Shaded half of the day by Betula cordifolia. Associates include Poa compressa, Agrostis scabra, Solidago hispida, Woodsia ilvensis, Achillea millefolium.
