Habitat: crevices of diabase bedrock in rugged terrain along [trail] ... Dry bedrock shrubland atop steep, south-facing slope. In full sun to shaded below Amelanchier sp. and stunted Picea glauca & Betula papyrifera. Associates include Aster macrophyllus, A. ciliolatus, Anaphalis margaritacea, Achillea millefolium, Fragaria virginiana, Aralia nudicaulis, Danthonia spicata, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Poa sp., Carex deflexa, C. backii, C. pedunculata, Diervilla lonicera.
