Habitat: Mesic boreal hardwood forest (aspen, birch, oak, maple, ironwood) with nearly closed tree canopy. Understory of scattered shrubs and herbaceous plants, especially Corylus cornuta, Aralia nudicaulis, Aster macrophyllus and Streptopus roseus.
