Habitat: Growing in a level, dry-mesic oak - shagbark hickory forest. Canopy trees include: Carya ovata, Quercus macrocarpa, Tilia americana, Quercus alba, Prunus serotina. Associates include: Hydrophyllum virginianum, Geranium maculatum, Geum canadense, Allium tricoccum, Sanguinaria canadensis, Caulophyllum thalictroides, Ranunculus arbortivus, Uvularia grandiflorum, Podophyllum peltatum, Ariseama [sic] triphyllum, Carex pensylvanica, Viola pubescens, Viola sororia, Osmorhiza longistylis.
