Habitat: Extensive wetland complex in fairly level terrain ... in rich tamarack swamp dominated by mature Larix laricina, with occasional Picea mariana. Understory predominantly Abies balsamea and Picea mariana. Deep peat. Growing on raised substrate areas such as around tree bases. In continuous carpets of Sphagnum spp., feathermosses, and other bryophytes. Associated species include Smilacina trifolia, Rubus pubescens, Pyrola asarifolia, Mitella nuda, Linnaea borealis, Cornus canadensis, Viola incognita, Malaxis unifolia, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Carex disperma, C. leptalea, C. gynocrates, C. interior, C. paupercula, C. aurea.
