Habitat: In a narrow fringe of deciduous trees along the river. Trees mostly Ulmus americana and Fraxinus nigra. Associated with Viburnum lentago, Amelanchier alnifolia, Crataegus chrysocarpa, Acer negundo, Lonicera xbella.
Description: Flowers just starting to open (at least a week after C. chrysocarpa). A large shrub with a single stem 2.5 m tall, and 3 cm basal. Stamens ca 10; anthers white. simple thorns long and numerous, compound thorns absent.
