Habitat: on slight gravelly rise in large mesic prairie remnant. Black, gravelly loam. Associates include Sporobolus heterolepis, Poa pratensis, Stipa spartea, Delphinium virescens, Solidago gigantea, Campanula rotundifolia, Asclepias ovalifolia, Coreopsis palmata, Veronicastrum virginicum, Psoralea argophylla, Amorpha canescens, Symphoricarpos occidentalis.
