Habitat:
In deep, narrow, forrested ravine just off the river. Wet-mesic forest dominated by Fraxinus nigra, with frequent Populus tremuloides, Picea glauca, and Quercus macrocarpa. Understory of Abies balsamea, Corylus cornuta, and Cornus racemosa. Moist sandy soil. Additional associates include Luzula acuminata, Festuca subverticillata, Carex peckii, Athyrium angustum, Onoclea sensibilis, Matteuccia struthiopteris, Equisetum arvense, E. pratense, Aralia racemosa, Actaea rubra, Lilium michiganense, Mitella nuda, Heracleum lanatum, Galium asprellum, Solidago flexicaulis, Ranunculus recurvatus, Osmorhiza claytonii, O. longistylis, Sanguinaria canadensis.
