Habitat: Large forested peatland complex in rolling bedrock terrain ... white cedar swamp dominated by fairly dense, mature Thuja occidentalis. Understory with occasional to common Alnus incana. Moderately hummocky peat, with low hummocks and wet depressions. Rooting on righer microsites including tree bases and along old decaying boles. Associated species include Carex trisperma, Rubus pubescens, Cornus canadensis, Mitella nuda, Clintonia borealis, Linnaea borealis, Coptis groenlandica, Rhamnus alnifolia, Ribies triste, and Abies balsamea seedlings.
