In extensive old growth northern hardwood forest complex ... Local in groundwater seepage zone along intermittent drainage near (above) crest of steep, 220-foot, east-facing slope. Shaded by canopy of Betula allegheniensis and Fraxinus nigra. Wet organic soil. Associated species include thelypteris phegopteris, Circaea alpina, Galium asprellum. Forming dense patches.
