Habitat: Extensive wetland complex in gently-rolling terrain ... In wet ecotonal woods aspen woods adjacengt to alder swamp. Partial shade of Populus tremuloides, Populus balsamifera, Alnus incana, and Salix bebbiana. Moist sandy-loam. Additional associates include Rubus pubescens, Thalictrum dioicum, Geranium maculatum, Osmorhiza claytonii, Galium triflorum, Equisetum arvense, Stellaria longifolia, Cicuta maculata, Apocynum androsaemifolium, Amphicarpaea bracteata, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Parthenocissus inserta, Cornus recemosa. Petasites sagittatus occurs in nearby sedge meadow.
