Level, sandy, outwash terrain ... Rich sedge fen ... loose groups growing mostly in the portion of the fen nearest the upland. Wet peat over sand. Full sun. Associated species include Carex lasiocarpa, C. buxbaumii, Scirpus acutus, Eleocharis elliptica, Iris versicolor, Thelypteris palustris, Triadenum fraseri, Potentilla palustris, Scutellaria galericulata, Eupatorium perfoliatum.
