Habitat: in tamarack swamp under somewhat sparse canopy of Larix laricina. partial shade. Wet areas mostly between tree bases and Carex stricta hummocks, often in standing water. Other associates include Salix candida, Betula glandulifera, Caltha palustris, Thelypteris palustris, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, Galium labradoricum, Carex prairea, C. pseudocyperus, Calamagrostis canadensis.
