Habitat: alluvial forest on outermost portion of [island]. Canopy dominated locally by Acer saccharinum, with occasional Fraxinus pennsylvanica. Partial to full shade. In moist silty soil approximately 3 feet above river level. Associated species include Elymus virginicus, Laportea canadensis, Boehmeria cylindrica, and a small bit of Phalaris arundinacea.
