on narrow ledges of 20 to 80-foot high x 1/2-mile long, north-facing, diorite cliff. In dry to rather moist situations, often in moss mats. Shaded by surrounding forest, and trees and shrubs on the cliff itself including Picea glauca, Thuja occidentalis, Betula papyrifera, Acer spicatum, Sorbus decora, and Alnus viridis ssp. crispa. Associated species include Woodsia ilvensis, Thelypteris phegopteris, Cystopteris fragilis, Polypodium virginianum, Gymnocarpium jessoense ssp. parvulum, Huperzia x buttersii, Dryopteris fragrans, Arenaira macrophylla, Aquiligia cnandensis.
