Habitat: Strongly-rolling forested terrain ... On extremely steep, mid and upper portion of 100-foot, north- to east-facing slope. Mesic hardwood forest dominated by Tilia americana, Quercus rubra, Acer saccharum, and Betula papyrifera. Sparse understory of A. saccharum. Gravelly-loam, with numerous glacial rocks. Often rooted in moss mats; on slopes steeper than 70 degrees. Associated species include Carex pedunculata, Solidago flexicaulis, Botrychium virginianum.
