Description: Ascocarps ca. 2-3cm in diam,no stalk evident,outer surface covered by spherical cells,19.7-29.6 in diam. Ascospores(x800,KOH)smooth,elliptical,hyaline,thin-walled,nonamyloid,w one small oil droplet,13.8-15.4(-16.3)x8.0-9.8 (n=8). Ascus 8-spored,hualine,amyloid w apex strongly amyloid,septate,unbranched w rounded apex,a few apices slightly enlarged(4.4-5.5).
Notes: this collection has small ascocarps for this species but is clearly identified by the smooth ascospores and their size,brown hymenium and scruffy white outer surface,absence of a stalk, and its slender paraphyses, which separate it from P. varia in RWG Dennis,1968,British Ascomycetes.
