Habitat: Moderately rugged forested moraine ... slight depression in mesic forest. Canopy dominated by mature Populus grandidentata. understory dominated by Abies balsamea. Moist sandy soil with thick duff layer. Full shade. Associated species include Pteridium aquilinum, Uvularia grandiflora, Rubus pubescens, Aster macrophyllus, Trientalis borealis, and seedlings of Acer rubrum, A. saccharum, Quercus rubra.
