Habitat: on lower portion of 40- to 70-foot, north to northeast-facing, mesic diabase cliff which forms upper portion of steep, 220-foot slope above small rapids in the river. In crevices, often below slight overhangs. Also in forested talus zone near cliff base. Shaded by Thuja occidentalis, Sorbus decora, Betula cordifolia, Alnus viridis, and Acer spicatum. Associates include Dryopteris fragrans, Woodsia ilvensis, Solidago hispida, Aquilegia canadensis, Campanula rotundifolia, Huperzia selago, H. lucidula, H. porophila, Carex communis, C. deflexa, Poa sp.
