Habitat: gently-sloping upper portion of 20-foot, west-facing slope on ridge ... Past fire evidence prevalent. Ecotone between paper birch and sugar maple dominated communities. Canopy locally dominated by maturing Acer saccharum, with frequent Betula papyrifera & Populus tremuloides. Patchy understory of Acer saccharum & Corylus cornuta. Ground layer dominated by Aster macrophyllus, Additional associates: Osmorhiza claytonii, Viola pubescens, Aralia nudicaulis, Anemone quinquefolia, Carex arctata.
