Habitat: in shrubby poor fen / bog in five acre depression surrounded by deciduous forest. Rooted in water on spongy sedge - Sphagnum mat. Partial shade of Betula glandulifera. Associated species include Carex lasciocarpa, Salix pedicellaris, Potentilla palustris, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, Triadenum fraseri, Sagittaria latifolia, Scirpus atrovirens, Cicuta bulbifera, Lobelia siphilitica, Polygonum sagittatum. forms dominant ground cover amongst shrubs in areas devoid of Laris laricina.
