Locality: United States, Minnesota, Cook, Superior National Forest. Above the Onion River 3 1/2 miles northeast of Tofte. Leveaux Mountain. T59N R4W S1/2 of SE1/4 Sec.2

Habitat: in forested talus zone below of 40- to 100-foot, north to northwest-facing, ferrodiorite cliffs on upper slopes of Leveaux Mountain. Forming small, dense clumps in thick moss mats on very steep slope immediately below cliff. Talus blocks 6-18 inches in diameter here (larger in nonforested talus zone on steep slope below). In shaded settings below Thuja occidentalis, Betula cordifolia, Picea glauca, Sorbus decora, and Pinus strobus.
Associated Species: Polypodium virginianum
