Habitat:
in forested talus zone below of 40- to 100-foot, north to northwest-facing, ferrodiorite cliffs on upper slopes of Leveaux Mountain. Forming small, dense clumps in thick moss mats on very steep slope immediately below cliff. Talus blocks 6-18 inches in diameter here (larger in nonforested talus zone on steep slope below). In shaded settings below Thuja occidentalis, Betula cordifolia, Picea glauca, Sorbus decora, and Pinus strobus.
