Habitat: mesic deciduous woods under canopy of Tilia americana 7 fraxinus pennsylvanica with understory of Ostrya virginiana. Deep, dark loam. Associates include Osmorhiza claytonii, Geum canadense, Galium aparine, Smilacina stellata, Hydrophyllum virginianum, uvularia sessilifolia, Solidago flexicaulis, Elymus hystrix. Rich woodland amidst the prairie, protected from prairie fires by George Lake. Now fragmented, recovering from grazing and repeated logging.
