On south facing slope in a small opening in sandy soil in a dry-mesic forest. Growing with Populus tremuloides, Corylus cornuta, Eurybia macrophylla, Symphoricarpos occidentalis, Lathyrus venosus, Diervilla lonicera, Galium boreale, Rubus idaeus, Achillea millefolium, Danthonia spicata, Panicum sp.
