Habitat: Moderately rugged forested terrain ... Local on margin of small (1/8-acre) vernal wetland. Shaded by surrounding mesic hardwood forest canopy including Acer rubrum, Ulmus americana, Quercus rubra, and Tilia americana. Scattered, loosely cespitose clumps, these growing in shallow water following extended wet period (above average rainfall). Shallow organic layer over sandy-loam. Rather heavy earthworm infestation. Associated species include Carex intumescens, Arisaema triphyllum, Scutellaria lateriflora, Vitis riparia.
