Habitat:
on narrow ledges of 30 to 80-foot high x 1/2-mile long, north-facing , diorite cliff and in large, blocky talus below cliff. In moist to rather dry, often mossy situations. Partial to full shade of surrounding forest, and trees and shrubs on the cliff itself including Picea glauca, Thuja occidentalis, Betula papyrifera, Acer spicatum, Sorbus decora, and Alnus viridis. Assodiates include Woodsia ilvensis, Thelypteris phegopteria, Polypodium virginianum, Maianthemum canadense, Dryopteris fragrans, Gymnocarpium dryopteris.
