Habitat: mid to upper portion of rather steep, 50ft, north to northwest-facing slope; Small dry-mesic prairie recovering from past grazing. Dark, rocky sandy-loam. Full sun. Associated species include Andropogon gerardii, Agropyron repens, Gentiana flavida, Allium stellatum, Solidago rigida, S. canadensis, Rhus glabra.
