Habitat: mesic prairie remnant, especially wet-mesic areas. Moist, black loam. Associates include Andropogon ferardii, Schizachrium [sic] scoparium, Sorghastrum nutans, Bromus kalmii, Spartina pectinata, Sporobolus heterolepis, Aster oolentangiensis, Hypoxis hirsuta, Lilium philadelphicum, Petalostemum purpureum, Zizia aurea, Liatris pycnostachya.
