Habitat: Growing in small poor fen basin in dense sphagnum hummocky mat (not floating) with associates including Andromeda glaucophylla, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Carex canescens, C. lasiocarpa, Scheuchzeria palustris, Drosera rotundifolia and scattered stunted Pinus mariana and Larix laricina. Surrounding upland consisting of Pinus banksiana, P. resinosa, Betula papyrifera, Quercus rubra, Populus grandidentata.
