in open woods (recently selectively logged, past grazed) ... in dry sandy soil in disturbed area ... Full sun to partial shade of Betula papyrifera and Pinus resinosa. Gentle west-facing slope. Associated species include Galium boreale, Conyza canadensis, Achillea millefolium, Verbascum thapsus, Lechea stricta, Apocynum androsaemifolium, Vaccinium angustifolium, Agrostis, scabra, Carex pensylvanica.
