Habitat: Gently-rolling sandy terrain ... ~25-acre conifer swamp in center of shrub fen peatland complex ... Fairly dense canopy dominated by Picea mariana, with occasional Larix laricina ... in continuous carpets of Sphagnum spp. mosses; mostly on hummocks. Most abundant in areas with rather low herbaceous layer diversity (depauperate). Deep saturated peat. Associated species include Carex disperma, Smilacina trifolia, Pyrola secunda, Osmunda cinnamomea, Rubus pubescens, Coptis groenlandica, Maianthemum canadense, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Ledum groenlandicum, Andromeda glaucophylla, Chamaedaphne calyculata.
